McLaren has launched its latest charity fundraising challenge with Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo set to pick up the gauntlet.
The F1 team has raised nearly £400,000 for mental health charity partner Mind since July 2020, notably completing a number of activities last year to boost this figure.
His latest challenge sees it calling on fans to complete ‘One lap for Mind’, by walking, running or cycling 5.9km, the distance of one lap of the Silverstone F1 circuit, across the British Grand Prix weekend.
As well as Norris and Ricciardo committing to the challenge, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andreas Seidl will also be involved.
“I am proud to take part in the ‘One Lap for Mind’ fundraising challenge,” said Brown.
“It is the perfect way to honor our three-year partnership anniversary with Mind while engaging our people and fans in a fun and positive activity to raise vital funds for their work.
“We chose to continue supporting Mind into the 2022 season as part of our goal to positively impact our people and the communities where we work and race.
“It is important that we continue to spotlight the mental health emergency created by the pandemic, and support the services Mind offer and the positive impact they make on people’s lives.
“I’d also like to thank our colleagues at Formula 1 and Silverstone for helping us host the charity track event during the British Grand Prix.”
McLaren will enter fans who raise over £59 into a prize draw, with one winner set to complete their effort at Silverstone alongside the team and drivers.
A £59,000 target has been set to raise funds for the charity’s infoline.
