The McLaren F1 is considered by many to be the greatest supercar of the 1990s. The V12 sports car produced between 1992 and 1998 was limited to just 106 copies, which of course makes it very, very difficult to buy one of the existing copies today. And even if you can find one for sale, you might end up paying a staggering amount – up to $ 15 million, a recent auction revealed. But someone in the UK is going to enjoy the look of F1 and its seating position for much, much less.
You have probably already guessed that the car you see in the attached gallery below is not a real F1, but a replica. It’s based on a previous generation Porsche Boxster and looks good in our eyes. Sure, there are a number of small imperfect finishes here and there, but nothing that ruins the overall F1-like appearance.

According to the auction information, the vehicle is fully functional and ready to drive. Interestingly, it is equipped with a hydraulically raised front end to easily negotiate bumps – a nice feature considering the road clearance of the replica. The seller also declares that all of the technology used under the skin is from Porsche, including the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, interior, etc.
Speaking of the interior, it’s important to note that the replica retains the center driver seat position of the original car with two seats behind it. Given the nature of the car, the seller explains that only test drives with passengers are possible and obviously this was enough for someone to pull the trigger.
The auction for this replica ended yesterday with a payment of £ 51,000 for the car, which is approximately $ 70,700 at current exchange rates. With original F1 prices skyrocketing these days, does this deal sound reasonable to you? Let us know in the comment section below.
