In summary, McLaren drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris say Formula 1 should consider a special retro livery race like NASCAR is doing.

McLaren drivers want a throwback race
McLaren is the latest team to present a special paint job for a Grand Prix weekend. After the partially white livery of Mercedes at the 2019 German Grand Prix and the burgundy-colored Ferrari car that appeared in Mugello last year, they will use a special, one-off golf livery for the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.
At a media event last week where the paint job was unveiled, the team’s two drivers responded positively to the idea of holding a race specifically for retro color schemes.
“The right old-school models would be pretty great,” said Norris. However, he added, “It’s nice that we’re the only ones doing this” this weekend. “Keep more eyes on us unless we both crash into the first corner.
“It makes it a little more exciting for a race. It would be cool to see everyone do something like this. Especially if you have a Williams or Ferrari [although] Ferrari would just be red. Lots of teams have had great and unique liveries over the years and it would be cool if everyone could come up with their own. “
Ricciardo also responded positively to the idea. “I know it’s another expense for the team, but other than that it’s all a step backwards – not just our racing suits, but casual wear, to team hats to get it right – it would be cool when everyone gets involved in it. “
