Ayrton Senna, a three-time world champion, found no shortage of successes in his legendary Formula 1 career. He won each of his three championships with McLaren before moving to Williams in 1994. The Brazilian was considered one of the best drivers in F1 history.

Of course every team, whether current or old, wants Senna to drive for them. And Scuderia Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto is no different.

In a fun video on YouTube, all current F1 team bosses, including Mattia Binotto, were asked to choose a driver from another era that they would like to have on their team. The most anticipated answer was Michael Schumacher, but the Ferrari boss had another choice.

When asked, Mattia Binotto said: “Ayrton Senna. I would have liked to see him drive the red car. “

Well, Binotto’s wish is not too far from reality. As it turned out, there was a time when the Brazilian legend was talking about joining the Italian team.

Ayrton Senna was about to move to Ferrari in 1994

Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo announced that Ayrton Senna was eager to switch from Williams to Ferrari in 1994.

“He wanted to come to Ferrari and I wanted him on the team. When he was in Italy for the San Marino Grand Prix, we met on Wednesday April 27 at my home in Bologna. He told me that he valued our attitude towards the excessive use of electronic driving aids, which did not show the driver’s ability.

“We talked for a long time and he made it clear to me that he wanted to end his career at Ferrari,” said Montezemolo.

Unfortunately, the partnership never materialized as the Brazilian died at the age of 34 after succumbing to his fatal injuries at the San Marino Grand Prix on May 1, 1994.
