Former F1 driver Jenson Button identified a pivotal moment in his career after the 2009 Brawn GP switched to McLaren’s 2010 World Champion with partner Lewis Hamilton but called for “equal treatment” with his compatriot or claimed the deal was so been out.
The Brit stormed to victory during the Brawn GP’s only season in 2009 and led the entire season, with Button finishing 11 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull.
Button’s next trip, however, took him to McLaren, along with former world champion Hamilton at the time, with both drivers being on par in the 2010 season.
“I remember walking in McLaren and the first thing I said before I met anyone, I was talking to Martin Whitmarsh, I was talking to Ron Dennis and I was like, ‘My first question is, is this Lewis team? Equal treatment here? ‘because if I’m not I don’t want to be here, “Button told The High Performance Podcast.
“And they said, ‘Yeah, everything will be 100 percent the same with both drivers.’ I said I can start now and then I went in, met everyone and very quickly developed a pretty good relationship with the team.

George Russell and Valtteri Bottas have more options
“I told Ross and he was very friendly and said, ‘I think you’re making a big mistake walking upstairs with Lewis.’ it happens. I didn’t have a contract for next year and it just didn’t feel like the place for me and going to McLaren was that. “
Button stayed with McLaren until 2017 before deciding to retire from Formula 1 to focus on other racing activities.
Hamilton left McLaren in late 2012 and has since stayed with Mercedes, where he won six of his seven world titles with the British German team.
