It was certainly a weekend to forget for the McLaren F1 team at the Canadian Grand Prix. Both Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris finished outside of the points after the end of the race.

But the team was not only struggling on the track with pace but also in the pits. They botched up a double pit stop for their drivers mid-race, which hampered their progress. Norris speaking to Swedish broadcaster ViaPlay gave comments about his race and pit stop.

“No idea. There were no tires. Which is a problem because you need tires to run a car. Yeah, I don’t know. I’m not too sure the team will tell me after,” Norris explained. He also gave a very brief summary of here he was struggling in the race. “Pace, grip, and speed,” replied Norris.

He started the race from P14 after experiencing some power unit issues in the wet qualifying session on Saturday. He didn’t really get a good start and fell back a couple of positions before reclaiming them on the track. Yet he could not make any progress because of his engine issues throughout the race.

“We were unlucky today in many places, and also just didn’t have the pace to race and overtake the people we wanted to race against. It was very difficult to overtake in general and that hurt our pace.”

“We simply couldn’t get into the positions we wanted to be in. I think the pace wasn’t too bad, still not good enough, but not too bad. Just the fact we couldn’t overtake, hurt us badly today,” said the McLaren driver.

Despite their tough outing in Montreal this weekend, there will be expectations from the Woking-based team when they head into Silverstone in a couple of weeks’ time.
Since the MCL36 is great at high-speed corners, the track layout should suit them a bit better compared to Baku and Montreal. Hopefully, they can get back to scoring points at the British Grand Prix in front of Norris’ home fans.
