In just two months, IndyCar will be back in action for the 2022 season. This marks the 106th edition of the Indianapolis 500, one of the most prestigious races in motorsport. Ahead of the new season and the Indy 500 confirmation, seats are slowly filling up. Now, some rumors suggest that the Arrow McLaren SP team could potentially use Colombian veteran Juan Pablo Montoya in a third car.

Sounds like Juan Pablo Montoya takes 3rd place in the AMSP car at the # Indy500. Stoffel Vandoorne will take over in the third car for the rest of the season.

There have been suggestions that Montoya’s commitment will remain solely with the Indy 500. Meanwhile, another former McLaren F1 driver, Stoffel Vandoorne, may be battling for a place after the Indy 500. Montoya, 46, has a fair amount of money from Indy 500 experience; it won in 2000 and also in the 2015 edition.
He already competed with Arrow McLaren in 2021 and finished well in ninth place. So it makes sense that the outfit will be on duty for a second season in a row. It’s worth noting that his first Indy 500 win came on his very first IndyCar launch. In addition, Juan Pablo Montoya drove for McLaren in the 2005 and 2006 F1 seasons.

Will Stoffel Vandoorne also join Juan Pablo Montoya?
Admittedly, it will be difficult for the Belgian to compete for the rest of the season. Because there is the possibility of a collision with his Formula E tasks at Mercedes. The Formula E season starts at the end of January, while IndyCar starts at the end of February.

The Indy 500 2022 takes place on May 29th, and beyond that, Vandoorne could run into trouble on a couple of races. For example, there is a Formula E race in Vancouver on July 2nd, but there is an IndyCar race in Mid-Ohio on July 3rd. Later, a double header occurs in New York, which collides with the Honda Indy Toronto. After all, street racing meets the London ePrix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
