According to McLaren Technical Director: “There has always been a very strong awareness that new things are discovered as soon as Formula 1 teams get into these regulations, because that’s obviously our job and that’s how it works.

“As soon as F1 teams get their hands on it, you’ll find new ways and ideas to achieve performance that doesn’t always meet their expectations.

“But I think there will be a lot of clarification – and there are already. I’m sure the sophomore will tweak them a little to try and revert to the original intent if it’s deviated a little, ”Key said.

What are the biggest changes in 2022?

F1 is planning massive aerodynamic changes that will affect the downforce of the cars that are blamed for “dirty air” in the turbo-hybrid generation. The “dirty air” is not inactive for close combat and also damages the grain of the tires.

The downforce generated by the leading car creates a trail of dirty air for the chase car. Another massive change to the regulations is the introduction of 18-inch tires. The new tires will not be as hard as the current Pirelli tires.

James Key will lead McLaren to build a challenging car for the championship. Some teams like Haas, Ferrari and Williams have already shifted their attention and resources to the next season.
