Former Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg hopes McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo “finds his feet” after battling for results in the first races of the 2021 season.
Ricciardo made some valuable contributions early in his McLaren career, finishing in third P6 of the season at the French Grand Prix. However, he was overshadowed by team-mate Lando Norris, who is the only driver to have scored points in all seven races of the 2021 season and can already boast six top five finishes, including two podium visits.

A terrible situation
In his assessment of Ricciardo’s start in the 2021 campaign at McLaren, Rosberg said of Sky F1: “Daniel is struggling a lot. He got a little closer this weekend (in France) but he’s still not in his best form getting used to the car. It’s a very unusual situation for Daniel because he’s been very dominant on his team in recent years, but he’s just struggling to find his way around the car. It’s so terrible when sometimes you just can’t feel the car underneath you the way you want it to, so you just don’t have the confidence.
“Other times, worse, Daniel is out there and thinks, ‘Wow, that was a great lap’ like in Monaco and then looks at the lap time and is eight tenths away from Lando. It’ll be really difficult for you “mentally as a driver and really not nice. I hope Daniel can find himself again. “
Meanwhile, Ricciardo is well aware of how good Norris was during his time at McLaren and enjoys the challenge of being pushed hard by him.
Ricciardo said: “He’s certainly very good. So far he’s had a very, very strong start to the season, he’s had a number of top five, with a couple of podiums of course. He’s showing really strong signs of being a top driver too He is. It definitely drives me. It’s what I like, I enjoy it. You certainly always want to be the top dog, but it’s good for me to learn, push and keep improving . “
