Italian GP: Sprint Team Notes – McLaren

Italian GP: Sprint Team Notes - McLaren

Daniel Ricciardo: “It’s really nice to be up there. We got off to a good start, that was important, but I knew we could do it. Our starts have been great all year round so we had the potential. I tried to get Max [Verstappen] in round one. I had a really good run – I could brake quite late, but it also had a decent run into the corner so I tried to hang out and then I saw I was running out of space so I had to get out of it. I think I was hit from behind. It’s just one of those situations, but of course I’m sorry for Pierre [Gasly]. It was nice to make up a few positions and then we settled into a rhythm. I didn’t have the pace to get to Valtteri. to keep [Bottas] and Max in sight, but at least I withdrew from the others. It was a lonely but happy third and tomorrow a first row. It’s not done yet, but it will be. “

Lando Norris: “Good sprint qualifications from us as a team. First of all, I think it was a good decision to start on the soft tire – it worked well for both Daniel and me. Another point today that is great for the team. I think we’re even better positioned than we expected for the race. So a positive day. I think the race pace is good too and we can hopefully look forward to a few more points tomorrow. “

Andreas Seidl, Team Principal: “Today’s sprint qualifying went according to plan. Both drivers were able to use the soft tires off the start line to their advantage and gain a place in the first corner. Very controlled stint in order to present us with excellent starting positions from P2 and P3 for tomorrow’s race, our best starting position since 2012. Daniel took a point today, which is a nice addition, but the big points will be distributed tomorrow. Now prepare for the race where we should have a strong car. I would like to thank the entire team and our colleagues at HPP. You have all worked very hard this week and put the car in a very competitive window. We’re looking forward to an exciting Italian Grand Prix. “
