Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt announced that he had initially turned down Ayrton’s Senna proposal to join the F1 team for the 1994 season.
Senna was driving a McLaren when he approached Todt. Rejected by Ferrari, he moved to Williams and later lost his life in the 1994 season.

“I offered him to join Ferrari in 1995, but he pushed for 1994,” Todt told Planet F1. “We already had two drivers under contract, Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger, so we couldn’t comply with his request, and when Ayrton asked why, I explained the situation to him.”

Ayrton Senna did not give up
What Todt said suggests that Senna was keen to join the Ferrari team. “He didn’t give up and told me that contracts don’t count in Formula 1, but I replied that I have to keep a contract. So we offered him a deal for 1995, but unfortunately we know what happened. “
In addition, Ferrari later found its star driver in Michael Schumacher, who won seven world championship titles. He joined the team in 1996 and became a legendary driver.
However, long before Schumacher came to Ferrari, people had told Todt that it was a bad idea. But when he won her first title, he proved everyone wrong.
Todt added, “Everyone was telling me not to go, it was an impossible mission, but I think that made me try.”
“It wasn’t easy, I came to Ferrari on July 1, 1993 and in 1999 we won our first constructors’ world championship. It took me a while to get there, and the following season we won our first World Drivers Championship with Michael.
“And before these successes I often thought: Well, you were right, we’ll never make it.”
