McLaren driver Norris takes third place in the drivers’ standings ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend as F1 returns from the summer break.
Norris has already beaten his overall score from last year and has three podiums behind him. His only classified result outside the top 5 comes at the Spanish Grand Prix in May.
Norris missed a chance to increase his points gain in Hungary after being hit by Valtteri Bottas at Turn 1, forcing him to abandon the race early.
The Brit said it took him “a few hours” to get over the crash in Hungary but it was part of his Formula 1 learning experience to get rid of incidents that were not his fault.

“It’s one of the things I’ve learned more, in a way, in Formula One, to learn when things are under your control and when it’s a mistake on your own or if you’re there when an incident occurs and you’re doing nothing can.” “Said Norris.
“It was frustrating because a lot of other people were getting points that we wanted to prefer. I was in P3 or P4 at the time. We could have achieved a very good result.
“I almost had a perfect first half of the season, I would have said. But it ended up the way it was. So I went on. It wasn’t something I could have done, there was nothing I could have changed.
“I did my job, I had a good qualifying [and] a good start to the race. [It] It just didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but after that we had the test and I had a great vacation. So let’s try again this weekend. “
McLaren is in a close battle with Ferrari for third place in the constructors’ championship. The two teams are tied ahead of the Spa weekend after McLaren failed to score in Hungary.
Norris said that while McLaren has been able to capitalize on problems or mistakes for Mercedes and Red Bull this year, the pressure from the teams behind it would only increase their threat.
“We had a very good first half of the season,” said Norris.

“We are in a very good position to get good points every now and then and to capitalize on mistakes made by the Red Bull and Mercedes cars ahead of us.
“But there are a lot of very fast guys behind it, Ferrari is one of them and AlphaTauri is one of them too. Alpine was very fast last season so maybe they could be a bit more dangerous.
“But we’re waiting to see it. I think the weather could play a big role [at Spa]. Hopefully it can. I hope a little rain makes it a little exciting now and then.
“But just trying to get back into the rhythm, get some good points, would be key.”
