While the Formula 1 battle at the front of the field in 2021 was incredibly tight and unpredictable at times, midfield competition behind McLaren and Ferrari has taken things to a new level.
In a season when the homologation rules triggered by COVID helped keep things tight, it was clear that there would be little choice between the three A-Teams: Aston Martin, AlphaTauri and Alpine. And while the battles above were about vehicle and engine characteristics and a little bit of development, the battle between this trio was decided by a variety of factors that made things unpredictable until the end.
