“He is very clever, also a good leader” – Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso believe that Martin Whitmarsh will bring a positive change for the Aston Martin F1 team.
The appointment of Martin Whitmarsh as Group CEO of Aston Martin Performance Technologies was well received by the F1 paddock.
Aston Martin driver and four-time champion Sebastian Vettel has called it “a strong recruit” and shows how serious the British automobile giant is to achieve great things in the sport.
“I know Martin from the time he left, I more or less started in Formula 1. I’ve never worked with him before and I don’t know him well enough to be able to judge him. I think we have to be open-minded.
“Of course we expected to strengthen the team, otherwise it doesn’t make sense to sign new people or add them to the team.
“I think it looks like a strong recruitment and hopefully it will help us achieve what we want to achieve in the future.”

Fernando Alonso gives the former McLaren boss thumbs up
Whitmarsh was McLaren’s team principal when Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were on the team. The Spaniard is delighted that his former boss is returning to the sport and believes he will be a great asset to Aston Martin.
“He’s sure to be of great help to Aston.
“He’s very smart, also a good leader. Unfortunately not on our team, but we also have great people.
“It’s good to see Martin and a lot of guys, they deserve a lot of recognition and are back in the sport now, so everyone in the paddock benefits.”
