The GMA T.50 is currently one of the most exciting cars in the world. It has an incredible Cosworth engine, distinctive design, and it marks Gordon Murray’s return to the center-seat sports car concept that gave us the McLaren F1. As it turns out, it sounds fantastic too.
Last weekend was 78. Goodwood Members Meeting, and for the first time we could hear the full range of the T.50’s Cosworth V12. We heard before a limited, test tuning of the engine, but now the 11,500 rpm genius has officially left the bottle. Goodwood released Video of the full running of the car on YouTube, and you have my official permission to open it in a second tab behind the table you are currently working on:
That sound. The T.50 has a relatively small displacement compared to the number of cylinders it hides under its rear fairing, which enables the car’s five-digit redline. Call it the sound of a classic F1 car, a TIE fighter or a swarm of angry liter bikes, but you can’t call it boring.
The T.50 may not look as wild as its Italian competitors with its MR2 Spyder headlights and five-person cabin, but its exhaust note makes for an excellent last breath of the naturally aspirated supercar. With turbochargers increasingly used in high performance applications, it’s only a matter of time before the exhaust notes are of a tame, muted quality across the board.

The next generation of AirPod
Adds some of the same features we saw with the Pro like spatial audio support and water resistance.
True, the roar and psssh-es of a big turbo are their own kind of fun, but the T.50’s sound stands out. It’s uncorked, tidied up, a recall to the sights and sounds of a long-forgotten racing era. With all the cars charged or electrified, the whining of the T.50 will still be out there.
That is, if every owner can pull one out of their air-conditioned garage long enough to start it up.
