Good news! Audi and Porsche enter Formula 1

The report claims that only the approval of the Volkswagen supervisory board stands in the way of Audi and Porsche entering the sport. The report also states that the diligence phase has not yet started, but lawyers on both sides are in talks. One of the main players at McLaren, the Mumtalakat Holding Company, is apparently ready to sell the insolvent automaker.

This would put the Volkswagen Group in an amazing position as the development costs for engines, electrification solutions, chassis designs and more could be split between Lamborghini, Porsche and McLaren. Each of them already use a 3.8 or 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 for many mainstream products, so combining ideas into a ubiquitous powertrain wouldn’t be difficult and valuable. Don’t get your hopes up for a rear-engined McLaren 720S or mid-engined Porsche 911, however.
