"Go hard or go home!": When NFL legend Tom Brady met F1 star Daniel Ricciardo at the 2018 Monaco GP

NFL legend Tom Brady exchanged passes with F1 star Daniel Ricciardo ahead of the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix.

Tom Brady is arguably one of the greatest American football players of all time. The 44-year-old quarterback has won 7 Super Bowl titles in 10 appearances over his 22-year career.

Brady’s throws on receivers in the NFL have fascinated fans for over two decades. Not many people, however, can claim to have received Brady’s passports and pole position at the Monaco GP that same weekend.

F1 star Daniel Ricciardo, who drove for Red Bull in 2018, had a famous meeting with the American that year in Monte Carlo. Brady was in town to see the legendary Grand Prix and was able to showcase some of his famous talents in Monaco Harbor.

At a promotional event for Red Bull and Tag Heuer, the NFL star and Ricciardo attended an impromptu event where the two exchanged a number of football passes. It was a little different from the type of passes Brady is used to in the NFL.

He threw a pass from his ship to another in which Ricciardo was standing with outstretched hands. To the surprise of many, the Aussie got the football clean and even returned it to the Patriots legend from boat to boat without a mistake!

Monaco Grand Prix 2018, a weekend of “redemption” for Daniel Ricciardo

David Croft’s famous comment after Verstappen’s victory in Monaco in 2018 still resonates in the ears of F1 fans.

“Today in Monte Carlo is Salvation Day for Daniel Ricciardo!” Croft exclaimed after the Aussie took the checkered flag home with him.

His win in Monaco that year was seen as special, largely due to the heartbreak he had suffered two years earlier. A pit stop mistake by the Red Bull crew gave him an almost certain victory that day.

As a result, the McLaren driver headed this weekend with additional verve and motivation to succeed. He led the qualifying sessions, started the race from pole position and won the Monaco GP.

After his Red Bull stint, Ricciardo moved to Renault in 2019 and stayed with the French team for two seasons. In 2021 he moved to Surrey and joined McLaren, with whom he won the Italian GP, his first race win since Monaco, the year he met Tom Brady.
