Gordon Murray Automotive’s McLaren F1 successor T.50 made a fantastic racket at the 78th Goodwood Members’ Meeting
Here it is, the moment we’ve all been waiting for since Gordon Murray announced his new V12 supercar two and a few years ago. Yes, we have a fully uncorked T.50 that turns up its naturally drawn in V12 heart, and as you’d expect, the noise is glorious.
What you hear is a 12,100 rpm capable 3.9 liter engine that powers the T.50’s rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Although it was quite humid for the car’s dynamic debut at the 78th Goodwood Members Meeting, Dario Franchitti was more than happy to step on the gas.
Want something more? Of course you do. The four-time IndyCar champion can also be seen in the video above, which gives the Ultima-based T.50 development car ‘George’ a damn good hiding place. For these two embeds, we recommend putting on some headphones or connecting a good pair of speakers.
The engine built by Cosworth develops 654 hp at 11,500 rpm, with the total output being temporarily increased to 690 thanks to a 48-volt starter generator. That might not sound like much in those power-obsessed days, but the T.50 has the weight on its side and weighs less than a ton. The engine itself weighs 178 kg.
It’s one of two high-revving V12s Cosworth has developed in recent years, the other is a 6.5 liter unit used in the Aston Martin Valykrie. They are not technically related, although Murray Car Throttle said some time ago that the GMA engine project benefited “from the background” of the larger 12 pot.

You need a lot of money to experience the T.50’s revving rage up close. Admission is £ 2.36 million, a number that didn’t put off hypercar buyers around the world – all 100 units were sold within 48 hours.
