Gordon Murray has called it his favorite sports car
Many police departments around the world have often added supercars to their fleets and now the French police are the latest to join the train. In contrast to real supercars like the Lamborghini Huracan, the French police have opted for something more local. It has ordered 26 Alpine A110 lightweight sports cars. Alpine is of course the sports car brand of the French automobile company Renault, which has been running its F1 team with the same brand since 2021.
The A110 is an iconic mid-engined sports car championed by legendary F1 car designer Gordon Murray and even Top Gear and Grand Tour star James May.
“Following a call for competition launched in June 2021, the Ministry of the Interior will procure rapid response vehicles for the National Gendarmerie. The A110 is used by the National Gendarmerie, the police force responsible for small towns and rural areas with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. The French ministry says these cars are used for intercepting highways where cars are traveling at high speed as part of road safety or police missions such as drug trafficking.

The A110 has a 1.8-liter turbo engine with 245.5 hp and 320 Newton meters of torque. It compensates for the performance deficit with its ultra-light construction. It starts at $ 68,000.
