Andreas Seidl isn’t worried about McLaren F1’s customer team status in 2026 when new engine regulations arrive. The Woking team principal believes that, as is currently the case, there will be a duty of fairness between engine manufacturers and their customers.
“There will be no radical change,” Seidl said. “The good thing today, with the way the regulations are made, is that the interface between the power unit and the chassis side is quite defined in the regulations.
« And I don’t expect them to change much for 2026. It allows us to have the same materials and the same layouts compared to the factory teams. It also ensures parity. »
According to Seidl, not being an official or semi-official team will not prevent McLaren from returning to the top level in the future.
« There’s a lot of control in place at the moment to make sure it’s going well, so I don’t expect any big changes. I don’t see it as something, for example, that would hold us back in our journey to return to fighting for victories as a client team. »
