Formula 1 | Ricciardo does not handicap McLaren F1 in its development

Ricciardo does not handicap McLaren (...)

Daniel Ricciardo’s difficulties this year have not handicapped McLaren, assures the team principal. Andreas Seidl confirms that the feedback from the Australian driver is in line with that of Lando Norris.

« I would say the development of a Formula 1 car is always driven by a combination of data and data analysis, but also feedback from the drivers, to understand their limits to go faster. » Seidl said.

« In terms of the feedback we get from our two drivers, Lando and Daniel, it’s not that different in terms of the limitations they feel of our car. I wouldn’t say that’s a problem. »

« It’s clear that if you look at how the season has gone so far with Daniel, he’s disappointed and so are we. But in the end, frustration or disappointment doesn’t help you progress. more important is to continue with a clear ambition to make it work. »

An evolution still planned after the break

McLaren have brought a major upgrade to the French Grand Prix, but Seidl assures that this will not prevent the MCL36 from receiving new parts after the summer break, in an attempt to make further progress before the end of the season.

“We just have to decide now, having also clarified the issue of the cost cap, how the rest of the season looks, but it was always planned to have an evolution before the summer break.

“If you look at the delivery times for these parts, it was always part of the development plan that we had in place. It was more about making sure that by the time we validated this set, we got enough profit for the money we spent. »

« That’s why we chose France in terms of timing over some teams who brought in certain parts earlier. We know where we are now in terms of the cost cap at the end of the year, so we now know what we have to work with. »

“Now we will make our decisions on how the rest of the year will look and when we will completely switch to next year’s car.
