McLaren F1 has told its drivers (...)

McLaren F1 was not surprised by the checkered flag at the end of the Japanese Grand Prix. Team manager Andreas Seidl says his employees were fully aware of the upcoming procedure, despite the confusion that reigned.

“From our side, it was pretty clear what needed to happen and I think the checkered flag came out at the right time. Seidl said. « But we saw that some were still going flat out afterwards, so we don’t know exactly what happened. »

Seidl admits that McLaren had doubts when Max Verstappen continued to push after passing the checkered flag, but the fact that this signal fell reassured the Woking troops.

« At the end we all understood it was the checkered flag but as Max kept pushing we first said ‘let’s take precautions and keep pushing because maybe we missed something. thing’. »

“Obviously we saw the checkered flag and if it came out then we respect it, but we saw them keep pushing and so we also went to the safety side until we got the clarity. »
