Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo lamented a difficult day in Singapore, with Norris explaining the approach McLaren has taken with their new upgrade package for the Marina Bay circuit.
Norris finished 19th in EL1 and 11th in EL2, the Briton showing alone this weekend a package including in particular remodeled pontoons.
« It looks tough, we’re a long way from Alfa Romeo, very, very, very far from Alpine, so it looks like one of the toughest weekends to come for us – which is a shame, but it’s like that, » launches Norris.
« We’re going to maximize our potential and do the best we can with the car we have and the performance we have this weekend, and we’ll keep pushing. That’s all we can do at the moment, so it « There are little things to find tomorrow and we can always attack. It just doesn’t seem as easy as usual. »
« As I already told the media yesterday, it’s not an evolution, it’s just a different car that performs at a very similar level. We didn’t expect a big step forward or to go much faster or look more competitive today… this is a car that will hopefully allow us to unlock more performance in the future, next year. it’s not a short term thing it’s more of a long term thing it worked well as we expect it’s just learning more and trying to unlock little things for tomorrow. »
Ricciardo, who finished 12th and then 18th in early practice in Singapore, echoed his teammate’s comments about McLaren’s chances on the streets of Singapore.
« Well, it’s definitely a tough day. It’s just very, very tricky, to squeeze some speed out of the McLaren, so I definitely have some work to do tonight with the engineers. »
« Of course it’s only Free, we’re going to make some changes tonight and try to figure out what, but yeah, it’s definitely difficult… We made some changes for Free 2 but it clearly wasn’t beneficial. We are a bit lost. »
