It was said this weekend in the Singapore paddock that the W Series is on the brink financially. The 100% female promotion formula does not seem able to find investors to survive, and Andreas Seidl regrets that this kind of thing happens.
“Of course Formula 1, or all of us as the Formula 1 community, have an obligation to ensure that we continue to support the promotional formulas. said the McLaren F1 director.
« Regarding the W Series situation, to be honest, I can’t comment because I don’t know what’s going on, I only read the rumors in the media. »
Red Bull boss Christian Horner joins his counterpart and hopes a solution will be found: « It would be a real shame to lose the W Series. I think it’s a good thing to have girls’ racing and a championship that’s exclusive to women. »
« So it would be hugely disappointing if they were to go. Hopefully that won’t be the case. I think there’s a lot of interest in there being more diversity, not just in Formula 1 but also in motorsport. »
« And I think the W Series has been a very positive defender of that. So hopefully a reasonable solution can be found for the future and that’s something we continue to watch with great interest. «
