Finest and best preserved McLaren F1 on offer at Pebble Beach auction

1995 McLaren F1

An exceptional 1995 McLaren F1, showing less than 400 kilometers on the odometer, will cross the auction block at the upcoming Gooding & Company Pebble Beach auction.

Gooding & Company has just announced the only McLaren F1 for the upcoming 17th annual Pebble Beach auctions, which will take place August 13-14, 2021.

The supercar is just one of the many premium offerings Gooding & Company will showcase during its spectacular two-day sale.

“The McLaren F1 is widely considered to be the most important automobile built in the last four decades. It’s an automotive tour de force with an unmatched competitive pedigree, including an overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “

Gooding & Company Senior Specialist David Brynan

Acclaimed designer Gordon Murray envisioned the McLaren F1 as the ultimate road car – a true Formula 1 car designed for the road. In 1998, the bosses of McLaren’s dominant Formula 1 team, Ron Dennis, Creighton Brown and Mansour Ojjeh, gave the green light for the production of Murray’s unique three-seater sports car concept with center drive.

The innovative team led the production of the extremely rare design feature which has a center seat with passenger seats on either side of the driver. The F1 showed the professional engineering and the exemplary attention to detail of the team and opened an exciting new chapter for the company in the production of road vehicles.

The F1 was first introduced in 1992 and immediately lauded as a mechanical masterpiece. Not only was the concept of the McLaren supercar new, but every F1 was hand built to precise standards using the most cutting edge materials such as carbon fiber, titanium, kevlar and gold.

Upholding Murray’s indomitable design ethos, Peter Stevens used Grand Prix technology to sculpt the F1’s sleek bodywork, including floor effects to create downforce.

It is powered by the elegant BMW Motorsport six-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine, which produces 100 hp per liter with an impressive howl when it is turned up to its red line of 7,500 rpm.

The F1 also features the innovative carbon fiber monocoque chassis, six-speed manual gearbox, bespoke high-speed tires and Brembo unsupported brakes.

Although it was conceived as a pure driver’s car, the design of the F1 ensured comfortable road use with a sophisticated air conditioning system and a lightweight audio system specially developed by Kenwood.

Interior of the McLaren F1

From 1992 to 1998 only 106 copies of the McLaren F1 were produced. To date, with a top speed of 240 mph, the F1 is still the fastest production car with a naturally aspirated engine, solid evidence of the quality of the technology and design of the F1.

Although the F1 was not designed as a racing car, the competition-specific F1 GTR dominated motorsport in the 1990s. The original GTRs, a slightly modified version of the road F1, took an impressive 1st, 3rd, 5th and 13th place in the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours.

In 1995 and 1996 McLaren won the BPR Global GT Series Championship with the F1 GTR.

When new, the McLaren F1 is one of the most expensive production cars and one of the most sought-after collector’s cars today. It embodies the pinnacle of modern sports car design and has raised the bar for all other super sports cars.

1995 McLaren F1, chassis 029

Estimate: More than $ 15,000,000

This F1, chassis 029, has rarely been seen in public as it was in the care of a Japanese private collection for most of its life. In Japan it has seldom been driven and meticulously maintained, as you can see in its current, exquisite condition. Its current US-based owner also kept the car in the delivery condition.

Remarkably driven just 390 kilometers from new, this McLaren F1 is still in its pristine original condition, even right down to its date-coded Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, making it the best and best-preserved example in the world.

The specimen is also unique due to its unique color scheme, which perfectly matches the restrained exterior design.

Factory records show that chassis 029 was the 25th street car produced and the only F1 in Creighton Brown, a unique color named after the executive who was instrumental in founding the McLaren Cars company. The characteristic paintwork is well coordinated by the light brown and dark brown leather upholstery within the three-seater cockpit.

Chassis 029 is offered with the McLaren service booklet, the FACOM tool box, the operating instructions, the appropriate luggage, the titanium tool set, the TAG Heuer watch and the official Driving Ambition book.
