After his visit to Asia, the paddock is settling down on the North American continent this weekend. In Suzuka, Alpine took the opportunity to overtake McLaren in the Formula 1 constructors’ standings. But in Austin, the British team, with Lando Norris at the helm, intends to set the record straight. Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso have been warned, McLaren loves this circuit and is out to regain their place in the points table. Fighting talk from McLaren.
The US Grand Prix will be crucial in the battle for fourth place in the F1 constructors’ standings. In Japan, Alpine got the better of McLaren by regaining its fourth place lost in Singapore. So McLaren is not letting itself be put off and is making a statement about this weekend.
Lando Norris particularly likes the Austin Formula 1 circuit. In previous seasons he has been in the points and he is hoping to do the same this year.
“I’m very happy to be back in Austin, it’s a great place to race and the fans are always very enthusiastic, so it should be an exciting weekend,” said Norris.
“The track is fun, with similar characteristics to Suzuka, so I’m looking forward to seeing how the new cars handle,
“I’ve finished in the points both times I’ve raced there, so hopefully we can build on that and get some valuable points for the constructors’ championship,” he said.

“Keep us in the fight for fourth place”
His McLaren team-mate is also hoping to pick up valuable points to hopefully get back ahead of Alpine. Daniel Ricciardo said:
“The US GP is one of my favorite races of the year. The extra energy I get from the atmosphere is immeasurable and I love everything about it. From the crowds to the food to the music, there is nothing better. I can’t wait to get on the track,
“I’m looking forward to the last four races of the season and trying everything to maximize results to keep us in the fight for fourth place in the championship.”
Norris: “I can beat Lewis Hamilton”
So full of self confidence is leading McLaren driver Lando Norris (and perhaps rightly so) recently claimed in the press he thought that he would beat Lewis Hamilton if they ever became team mates.
Planet F1 today published an article about a video for British GQ, where the British driver confessed that he could beat the seven-time former World Champion if they were in the same team together.
“There’s a tough question,” said the 22-year-old. “I’ve got to say yes.
“By no means would it be easy. Lewis is one of the greatest ever but if you want to do well, you’ve got to believe you’re better than the rest.”
One would have to say that if McLaren gets their car right for Austin, there’s a great chance Norris and perhaps Ricciardo, who has much to prove to stay in F1, can finish well into the points and regain the fourth position in the Formula 1 constructor standings.
