Ferrari's Mattia Binotto: "We have to concentrate on the next race in Zandvoort"

Scuderia Ferrari were one of only two teams that could score points with both drivers in the farce on Sunday Belgian Grand Prix, but team boss Mattia Binotto admits it wasn’t the best weekend for the Italian brand.

Ferrari seemed to struggle for performance all weekend Spa Francorchamps, and that was obvious when Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. were both eliminated on Saturday afternoon in the second quarter. Leclerc eventually moved up to ninth place for both of them on penalties Valtteri Bottas and Lando Norris, while Sainz started in eleventh place.

When Sergio Perez fell on the way to the starting grid, both drivers shot up one more place, but without a green flag and a very short race that was only held behind the safety car, Leclerc finished eighth and Sainz tenth. Leclerc got two points for this, while Sainz only got half a point because the race didn’t go the at least seventy-five percent of the race distance to get full points.

Binotto says it is important for Ferrari to be at the. strong to fight back Zandvoort race track They are trying to recapture third place in the constructors’ championship after taking the position to the McLaren F1 team in Belgium.

“First of all, I would like to thank all the spectators who stayed on the track until the very end to see what an unsafe and spectacular race should have been,” said Binotto. “The race director did everything he could to get the Grand Prix going, but the conditions were never good enough to endanger the safety of the drivers and track workers.

“The final result was thus determined from the starting positions, which means that we cross the finish line with two points. Our weekend wasn’t going too well until yesterday, but it’s a shame we never saw how it could have gone in a race where anything could have happened.

“Now we have to concentrate on the next race at Zandvoort, a historic course that returns to the championship calendar after a very long absence.”
