Ferrari 410 expected to sell for $25-30 million Saturday in Monterey

Ferrari 410 expected to sell for $25-30 million Saturday in Monterey

RM Sotheby’s brings out the cream of its crop to Monterey Car Week each year, and the star of its 2022 auction line up is the Ferrari 410.The 1955 beauty has a racing pedigree that includes having the legendary Carroll Shelby in the driver’s seat. The red Ferrari, with a white no. 98 on it, is expected to fetch between $25 and $30 million when it hits the block Saturday night in downtown Monterey. “One of the most impressive racing Ferraris ever created, super rare, super powerful, just kind of the best of the best,” RM Sotheby’s automotive specialist Michael Caimano said. Despite the estimated price tag, the 410 may not be the most expensive car sold this weekend. RM Sotheby’s insiders are predicting a 1998 McLaren F1 may go for even more. But the one-off prototype is being sold online through a new sealed bidding process, so car enthusiasts may never know how much it brings. Sotheby’s Sealed was introduced this year. The cars are brought out to marquee events like Car Week but sold online. Bidders can’t see what others are offering to pay for the car, only where they rank among bids. “The nice thing about the platform, for clients, is it creates a sense of privacy for them. Also, the price of the car is not being publicly advertised — a lot of the owners like that as well, so it is just a unique platform that we offer some very special cars,” said Caimano. One of the cars getting the most attention on social media at RM Sotheby’s is a cool blue Porsche designed to look just like Sally from Disney Pixar’s “Cars.”Like Sally, she’s a Porsche 911 with pin striping detail. The car also features a number of one-off details that could make her a car collector’s gem. “It’s based on a 911 Carrera GTS, but its got a unique paint color, Sally Blue Metallic, painted by hand, only this car has that color, the wheels are a throwback to the 996 generation turbo look, turbo twist style wheels that we saw 20 years ago adapted to this car. It is the only car that has these wheels,” said Frank Wiesmann, with Porsche. The interior took 60 man hours of work to customize, and inside, you’ll find the “Cars” emblem on the dash and doors. It’s unknown how much the car will go for, but every dollar from the sale is going to charities.”Those charities in this case are Girls, Inc., — they provide learning opportunities and mentorship for young girls to help them thrive and succeed — and the UNHCR, the UN refugee agency’s efforts to help women and children displaced by the war in Ukraine,” said Wiesmann. The Sally Car was designed thanks to a partnership between Porsche and Pixar just in time for what would be Sally’s 20th birthday. The voice of Sally herself, Bonnie Hunt, is in town to help make the sale. Hunt is expected to make an appearance at the auction Saturday night.
