Ferrari 250 GT TDF wins Best Of Show at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2021

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este takes place every year on the shores of Lake Como in Italy and has been prominently sponsored by BMW for a decade. That’s funny, because it makes the Ferrari 250 GT TDF technically the winner of the “Trofeo BMW Group”, as the award is called.

This particular Ferrari bears the TDF nomenclature because a similar car won the Tour de France in 1956, an automobile stage race held at the time. The car version of the Tour de France actually dates from before the bike version.

This Ferrari uses a 3.0 liter V12 that develops around 250 hp. This particular example was driven at the historic Mille Miglia the same day it was picked up by the owner. He then took part in numerous competitions, including mountain races.

After its racing career, it was relocated to the United States before being fully restored to concours state. Still, it is noteworthy that it managed to win this award because the competition at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2021 was outrageous.

An incredible example is the 1968 Howmet TX Race Car powered by a gas turbine, which sounds just like a Boeing 747 when idling. Another was the Isdera Commendatore 112i, which won its class despite facing the biggest hitters of the 90s. Including a Bugatti EB110, a Porsche GT1 street version, a rare black Ferrari F50, a Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR and of course a McLaren F1.

Even the original Lamborghini Countach concept car returned after a rigorous conversion by its parent company that took more than 25,000 hours to complete.
