Fernando Alonso: "The last few laps were a lot of fun and we tried to attack and be aggressive"

Fernando Alonso secured his best result of his comeback season formula 1 On Sunday Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with the Spaniard an excellent sixth place in the Baku city tour.

The Alpine F1 team racer was involved in the battle for points throughout the race, but the late red flag and restart gave him an opportunity to make up positions, which he did with an excellent start. Ultimately, Alonso moved from the back of the top ten to seventh after just one corner before overtaking Yuki Tsunoda on the outside of round five to claim sixth place.

However, despite his late racing advances, Alonso believes the team needs to fix the A521’s pace deficit in racing conditions.

“I’m happy for the team that we took some good points this weekend, I have the feeling that we deserved it after a challenging weekend,” said Alonso. “The last few laps were a lot of fun and we tried to attack and be aggressive to make up some positions.

“The weekend was pretty solid for us, but we lacked the pace a bit in the race. So we have to look into that, but I am happy with the day at the end and we will try to bring this to France. “

“I drove my race and it went well and the pace was there for the top ten that Fernando showed in the end.”

Ocon’s attention is now focused on his home Grand Prix in France and he can’t wait for the opportunity at the Circuit Paul Ricard Later that month.

“It was not our weekend, that is clear, but we will turn the page and look forward to the next one, the French Grand Prix,” said the Frenchman. “It’s going to be a great race for me, I can’t wait to race there again.”
