Mercedes was inspired by Formula 1 cars with closed wheels and the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé from 1955. To get the concept into production, Mercedes worked with McLaren to make it a reality. Responsible for the design was none other than Gordon Murray, the genius behind the McLaren F1 and his own T.50. For power, the SLR McLaren uses a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that can produce 617 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque.
