With the release of three seasons of the popular Netflix documentary series “Drive to Survive” and another season, the number of viewers in Formula 1 races has seen a huge surge in viewership thanks to the US population. While F1 has always been considered the premier class of motorsport and was only available to the European elite, the executives are overjoyed that the fan base is growing every day.

Now, after entering the American market, Formula 1 wants to give competitors such as NASCAR and IndyCar a run for their money. To excite the US audience, the FIA has already announced two races in the country – one in Texas and another in Miami. And even F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali didn’t completely reject the idea of a third race in Las Vegas!

FIA hopes to venture to the US after the DTS success
Just a few years ago, most Americans didn’t know about the lavish, adventurous, and nerve-wracking journey of the F1 drivers and anyone else they might find in the paddock. But now Drive to Survive has given them an exclusive inside look at this fascinating sport. And US fans have been rounding out seasons on Netflix since the first was released in 2019.

In a recent interview, Domenicali revealed that the launch of a new F1 GP in Miami on the 2022 calendar has multiple goals. One of them is that the FIA wants to spread the popularity of F1 in the US. Before that, fans enjoyed spectacular races at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas. In a few weeks, all eyes will be on Austin, Texas, as the United States GP will be held there on October 24th.

However, knowing that US fans might want more, the FIA has a strategic plan to take full advantage of the sport’s growing popularity in the country. When asked about the FIA’s plans for a third US company, Domenicali said: “I would definitely not take advantage of this opportunity.”
Speculation shows that F1 staff have their sights set on a blockbuster GP on the Las Vegas Strip in Sin City.
Previous attempts at racing in Zac Brown’s home
Previously, the Indianapolis Freeway hosted F1 races from 2000 to 2007. When Bernie Ecclestone tried to commercialize the sport, he failed to hold a race in New York City. The Circuit of The Americas held its first race in 2012 and has been a regular host ever since, with the exception of 2020 when the US Grand Prix had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Indianapolis and Las Vegas have been a destination for quite some time.

Zak Brown, McLaren CEO, welcomes this newfound popularity of the sport in his home country. Recognizing the huge audience that the Netflix series attracted, he said, “I was pleasantly surprised by the number of times I heard, ‘I didn’t know about F1, I’ve never seen F1 – now I won’t miss any F1”. Run. Sometimes these are [sports docuseries] Bring a casual fan on board and you’ll get some awareness, but Netflix turned people who didn’t follow Formula One into die-hard overnight.

So with a busy calendar, new rules and some exciting races, the next F1 season definitely looks promising.
As for 2021, with only a handful of races left for this year, the championship battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will be strong. The Turkish GP takes place in a few days and could be important in the announcement of the drivers’ championship winner. Only time can tell what the fans and also the F1 drivers can expect!
