There was a time an F1 model of McLaren was gifted to American motorsport driver Michael Andretti as compensation! Yes, you read it right, as remuneration. However, this isn’t the same McLaren F1 that Lewis Hamilton purchased in 2017.

So much was the craze of this great car model that it was being gifted instead of an F1 seat in the McLaren F1 team. As a matter of fact, McLaren was in a contract dilemma with esteemed drivers like Mika Hakkinen and Michael Andretti back in 1993, where Andretti had to leave the Woking-based team to give way to Hakkinen.
Lewis Hamilton debuted in F1 with McLaren in 2007. This probably has given the Briton an extra reason to pull that super rare F1 into his garage. Moreover, Hamilton’s 2008 Champion with the Papaya team also justifies his ownership of the F1.
McLaren F1 stands tall in Lewis Hamilton’s car collection
The British driver has a rich taste in cars, as he owns many supercars that are rare in the market. From McLarens and Ferraris to Mercedes, the seven-time world champion has amassed a collection of supercars that most car enthusiasts would envy.

The Mercedes driver added the McLaren F1 model to his already rich car collection in 2017. The Silver Arrows ace purchased the extreme machine from Bonhams’ auction for over $15 million. Hamilton, who’s worth $285 million as of 2022, hasn’t shied away from spending money on cars.
Apart from the F1, Hamilton also owns Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Mercedes Benz SLS, Mercedes Project One, and many more.
