After driving the legendary McLaren F1, several Koenigseggs, the Chiron Pur Sport and Bugatti Divo, the Pagani Huayra, Lamborghini Centenario, McLaren Senna and the original Holy Trinity of Speed (Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918), reviewer Doug DeMuro just found his favorite hypercar in the new McLaren Speedtail.
The Speedtail was introduced in 2018 as the world’s first Hyper-GT and is basically an insanely aerodynamic hybrid hypercar with Bugatti Chiron performance level, a central seating position and many modern technologies that set it apart from its competitors.
When he was done with that, DeMuro placed it at the top of his DougScore chart for these types of vehicles. That means he enjoyed it more than any of the aforementioned cars, although on paper it can be argued that there isn’t that much of a difference between these nameplates. All of them are absolutely remarkable.
In any case, not only the performance of the Speedtail convinced the tester, but also the clever high-tech solutions inside. These include the digital rear view cameras or the electrochromatic glass panel on top of the windshield, which you can dim or brighten as you wish.
The McLaren Speedtail is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 hybrid drive with twin turbocharging, which together produces 1,036 hp (1,050 hp). Everything is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a seven-speed Graziano dual-clutch automatic, and if you keep the throttle on the ground you’ll eventually max out at 250 mph (402 km / h). In the meantime, you can accelerate from zero to 300 km / h in just 12.8 seconds, which is faster than a Bugatti Chiron.
The Speedtail is only the fourth model McLaren has built for its Ultimate Series lineup, and it already looks like a proper successor to both the P1 and the original F1.
