“Don’t Push Max Into a Corner Or…”: Verstappen Sr. Warns F1 Grid Of “Nice & Sweet” Dutch Lion’s Temperament

"But You Must Not Forget He's Young": Toto Wolff Predicted Years Ago That Max Verstappen Will Have a Change of Heart With Due Time in F1

Max Verstappen is arguably one of the most talented drivers to join the grid in the past few years. He changed the course of history when he overtook Lewis Hamilton in the final lap of the final race in the 2021 season. He hasn’t looked back since and won his successive second title in Japan this year to strengthen his hold at the peak of F1.

If we do not look at the recent controversy with his teammate Sergio Perez, Max and Red Bull have enjoyed a dominant season. The Dutchman has won 14 races this season, and could still add to his tally by winning in Abu Dhabi. However, it doesn’t surprise his father, who states he knew Max was destined for big things.

In a recent interview with De Limburger, Jos justified Max’s excellence by saying, “It runs in the family.” He said, “Everything has to be one hundred percent. That, of course, has its consequences. Look what happened in Brazil. Sometimes that way of living and working also drags you down. But it’s why Max is so good. That’s how he grew up. Although he has a slightly different character.” [Translated using Google]

When asked how his son is different from him, Jos replied, “He’s nicer. And he is more in control. I used to be much more extreme, but Max is basically a very nice and sweet guy. He has a small heart. But if the helmet goes on, it’s a lion. Don’t push Max into a corner or he’ll explode. I have that too, but that’s what makes him so extremely good.”

Verstappen will hope to return to winning ways on the track where he won his maiden world title. Furthermore, he’ll also look to help Checo achieve P2 in WDC.

Jos Verstappen hopes this is just the beginning for his son Max

Max Verstappen’s stellar achievement would certainly have his father bursting with pride. As an F1 driver, Verstappen Sr. might have not won a race but saw his son become the youngest-ever F1 race winner. He hopes Max’s success has only just begun, and he will rule the F1 stage for years to come.

Verstappen Sr. said, “It will not get much better than it was this season. When you win thirteen races in a season, that is extreme. We still have three races to go, so that is great to see.”

“Especially for the team. They have worked incredibly hard for this. It was such a tough weekend for them, and this is the perfect result. I hope this is just the beginning,” added Jos.

Red Bull will be hoping Checo Perez can beat Charles Leclerc in the last race of the season. If the Mexican succeeds in doing so, Red Bull will have a 1-2 in WDC for the first time in their history.
