Dario Franchitti drives Gordon Murray’s T.50 hypercar XP4 prototype

Very little video was recorded during the development of the McLaren F1. This is not the case with the upcoming hypercar from its creator, the T.50. We received videos of the entire process, from design to testing the powertrain.

Last week we reported on the first ride of the test mule named George. During this video, Franchitti, a racing driver and team member at GMA, noticed how excited he was to drive the actual T.50 XP prototype.

Well, today we’re getting footage of that test and a little more. Testing takes place in Millbrook and Gordon Murray Automotive’s test facility. In contrast to the previous video, we don’t immediately get full-throttle sounds from the speakers.

GMA wants us to know a little what the T.50 looks like in motion before we hear it on the track. We even get a few shots of Murray himself watching the T.50 drive past him. It’s a nice moment.

Then the action begins on the track as we watch Franchitti keep stepping on the gas while data engineers sit on either side of him. They record vital information about the fuel delivery, timing, and response of the engine.

Returning to the garage, we hear Gordon joking about the car from the previous vlog, saying, “It’s (the T.50 XP4) a bit more sophisticated than that,” referring to George, the Ultima with a T.50 -Drive.

Franchitti can’t even appreciate the joke because he’s overwhelmed by the middle seating position. “It just feels right … you’re just thinking … why didn’t anyone do that? Everything else feels like a compromise …”

He sits there looking around and mentions something that we all appreciate … “I just think about the little things and how I can do better,” he says. Even at this late stage of development, the company is still trying to improve the car.

Before we unsubscribe, we get two special treats. First we get the chance to hear the start-up again. It sounds like nothing else we’ve heard before. Then, before it turns black, we see three T.50 prototypes driving together.

This company is about to rewrite the history books all over again.
