In 2016, Hennessey Performance announced it would be discontinuing the Lotus Elise-based Venom GT to focus on a new car. This time, however, it was supposed to be built from scratch. This dream has now come true in the form of the limited Hennessey Venom F5. Only 24 units will be built and if you were thinking of getting your hands on an allotment all you have to do is wait for the cars to show up in the secondary market as they are now completely sold out. It joins a league that includes hypercar kings like the Bugatti Chiron, McLaren Speedtail and Koenigsegg Regera.
However, the Venom F5 wants to take the top spot all by itself in terms of top speed. John Hennessey, the company’s founder, has claimed that the Venom F5 will be able to reach a top speed of 311 mph. That remains to be seen, but for now, let’s take a look at some of the coolest features that make the Venom F5 a really special machine.

A machine called the Fury

It’s virtually impossible to talk about the Hennessey Venom F5 without at some point pulling the engine into the frame of the conversation. After all, breaking the 300 mile limit is at the heart of the car.
about hennesseyperformance
The engine, developed in-house by the Hennessey Performance team, is called the “Fury,” and for good reason. It’s a twin-turbo-charged V8 engine that develops 1,817 horsepower at over 8,000 rpm and 1,193 lb-ft of torque.

Lightweight construction
via hennesseyspecialvehicles
In order to get the best out of the powerful engine, the Hennessey Performance team paid great attention to weight savings in design and construction. The Venom F5 is built around a carbon fiber monocoque that weighs just under 190 lbs or less than 100 kg.
about hennesseyperformance
This, together with various other lightweight components, gives the hypercar an empty weight of almost 1,360 kg. Combine that with the engine power and you get an insane power to weight ratio of 0.61 hp / pound (1.34 hp / kg), one of the highest for any road car out there today.

Driving modes
via hennesseyspecialvehicles
The Hennessey Venom F5 has a total of 5 driving modes: Sport, Wet, Track, Drag and F5. Choosing one of them triggers a number of changes to the vehicle’s steering, power delivery, traction control and electronic stability control.

Interestingly, only the F5 driving mode unfolds the full 1,817 hp potential of the car, and that after the owner has gone through a special training program at the automaker’s plant with an ‘F5’ license at the end as evidence.

Track your package
via hennesseyspecialvehicles
The performance of the Hennessey Venom F5 isn’t subtle. It accelerates like a greased rocket and behaves like a decent performance car should. In true Hennessey fashion, however, an optional track package is offered to further enhance the driving experience.
about hennesseyperformance
It costs $ 100,000 above the base price of $ 2.1 million and comes with an aggressive front splitter and a rear wing that is bigger than what you get for the production vehicle. A significant portion of the happy 24 customers have reportedly opted for this package. The repair takes about an hour and the automaker shows customers how to do it.

steering wheel

In an otherwise sparsely designed interior, the steering wheel is immediately noticeable. First, it’s made entirely of carbon fiber with leather wraps to give your hands enough support. Its styling is inspired by both an airplane yoke and the steering wheel of an F1 racing car.

The top of the wheel is beveled to make it easier for the driver to see the instruments and the road ahead. In addition, practically all the buttons, switches, buttons and controls the driver needs are located right on the steering wheel to minimize distractions.

Interior layout
via hennesseyspecialvehicles
As mentioned earlier, there isn’t much going on inside the car when you open the butterfly doors and get in. However, that “barebone” layout in itself conveys a very clear message about what the car is about – raw, focused performance.

The interior is dominated by satined carbon fiber, which is only broken in places such as the door panels, the dashboard and the seats, where you can see trimmings made of high-quality leather. Behind the steering wheel is a 7.0-inch instrument panel with a display that changes depending on the driving mode selected.
2
infotainment
about hennesseyperformance
The interior follows the principle of function rather than form, but there are still some nice additions that should make driving the Venom F5 a pleasant experience. One of the additions in this regard is a 9.0-inch alpine touchscreen infotainment system that sits right above the central vents on the dashboard.

It offers support for Apple Car Play and Android Auto with satellite navigation, stereo functionality and Bluetooth telephone coupling for hands-free and multimedia use.

Exterior design
via hennesseyspecialvehicles
The design of the Venom F5 was inspired by the McLaren F1, which can be recognized by the low front and the gently rising belt line. Here, as in the interior, the focus is on performance; a slim aerodynamic profile helps the car achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.39.

Part of the carbon fiber tub is visible from the outside, and according to Hennessey, the CNC-machined carbon fiber fabric at the rear of the F5 is the largest piece of machined fiber used in any car.
