Brawn explains why Norris' frustrations after the British GP are a "beautiful reflection" of McLaren

Lando Norris had an eventful weekend at home in the UK. McLaren’s star player may have lost the podium this week but has made great strides in this race. Landing on an adequate P4 at Silverstone wasn’t enough for Lando. He was happy with the result – it meant more points for the team, but if he had saved the hiccups he would have had a chance to fight for the podium.

The long pit stop cost him the chance to challenge the Mercs until the end of the race. However, that Lando knew the car had the potential to fight the Silver Arrows says a lot about McLaren’s progress. It not only shows his belief in the machine but also in himself. Lando has proven to be a rider to watch out for this season.

On the post-race show, Lando talks about the pace of the car. The restart allowed Lando to make it into the top three, and he did. He overtook Bottas smoothly from the traffic lights and maintained this lead. He says this is proof that the Orange cars have a lot more power and pace.

“Our pace was probably better than we expected, especially in the first half of the race.”

Unforgettable episodes for Lando Norris

The 21-year-old may not have gotten to the end he wanted at Silverstone, but the points he earned took him to a new level. This is Norris’ 9th top-five finish out of ten this season. The accumulation of these points put him in third place on the best drivers list – with a Mercedes and RedBull under him.

Fate played a cruel trick on Norris, because if the pit stop had gone smoothly, he would have got “that little bit more” he thirsts for. He adds: “I didn’t get a chance to stay up front and defend for as long as possible. It would have been nice to fight for it and have this opportunity, but fourth and fifth places are still a good result for us as a team. “

The Brit is the only driver in McLaren history to have so many points in Formula 1. Ross Brawn praised the potential future champion. “That Lando was disappointed in fourth place shows how far he and his McLaren team have come lately and his performance is a beautiful reflection of the progress he has made.”

He comforted the driver, saying, “He will have been frustrated with losing third place on the road to a slow pit stop, but if he’s slept about it he’ll surely think about some other good job.”

It was a really good job for Norris and his team too. McLaren’s P4 and P5 at Silverstone reveal the progress the team is making in the garages. By 2022, McLaren may have come out of midfield and enter the championship race.
