Big boost for McLaren F1 with positive Lando Norris update after horror crash in Spa

After the W-Series experienced an insane collision with multiple cars in qualifying late on Friday night, it was Lando Norris who faced the wrath of the frightening Raidillon / Eau Rouge corner at Spa Francorchamps. The good news, however, is that Norris has received the green light to race.

The Brit suffered a very bad crash in qualifying in which his McLaren MCL35 was completely dismantled. Of course, the conditions weren’t right for an F1 car, and the FIA had to find out the hard way through Norris’ plight.

What worried everyone, however, were Andreas Seidl’s comments on the condition of Norris. Apparently Norris was holding his elbow, which meant he must have had an impact in the McLaren cockpit.

Therefore, Seidl left the question open whether Norris could drive on Sunday. McLaren then released a statement revealing the condition of Norris.

“After his accident while qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix, Lando was examined at the track’s medical center and then taken to a local hospital for a preventative x-ray of his elbow. Another update will be released in due course, ”McLaren wrote on Twitter.

Norris fit for the race on Sunday

Hours after the Spa incident, Seidl confirmed that Norris went through the entire list of medical exams, including a look at the elbow. And the result is a thumbs up from the medical team.

“The checks were carried out in the hospital, including on his elbow, which was a little painful. Everything is good and he’s good to race again tomorrow, ”said Seidl according to Autosport.

Drivers who replaced Lando Norris at the Belgian GP

The top candidate would have been Stoffel Vandoorne.

Why, you might ask?

First, the Belgian would drive in front of a home crowd, but that wouldn’t be McLaren’s priority, would it? Neither do ours.

Vandoorne has the ability to jump in the car at the very last minute without running as he has driven for McLaren in the past and has plenty of experience in Formula One. Also, under potentially treacherous conditions on Sunday afternoon, McLaren might have had to rely on experience to get the car home in one piece.

But in addition to Vandoorne, there is also his Formula E team-mate Nyck de Vries. The Dutchman recently lifted the Formula E crown and is bursting with confidence. In addition, he’s also the lead candidate for the Williams seat next season.

Hence, McLaren may have been pushing for Vries to replace Norris. And finally there is Paul di Resta. The Briton has done it for Williams in the past and he could well have done it again at Spa. Di Resta currently competes in the WEC.
