This week, Audrains Newport Concours and Motor Week return to the Rhode Island coastal area after a flamboyant opening year of 2019 with a huge number of enthusiast events and rare classic cars. With a four-day program of activities including a Bonhams auction and close proximity to New York and Boston, the event could soon overshadow other prominent East Coast concours.
The multi-day series of events has already started, with various seminars on Thursday in Newport.
“Audrain’s seminars, the festivities will begin on Thursday lunchtime and continue throughout the week with well-known celebrity hosts including Jay Leno, McLaren F1 CEO Zak Brown and Jay Ward of Pixar Animation Studios,” said the organizers of the concours. “The day will end with two luxury get-togethers – Wine By The Water at Forty 1 North in Downtown Newport and Hilltop Hangout, a private cocktail and cigar party at the Hilltop Inn on Kay Street.”
Events on Friday include the Bonhams auction and four other seminars and events for owners and visitors alike. On Saturday, the Tour d’Elegance will take place alongside three other satellite events, including downtown cars and cafes, the Audrain Automobile Museum’s annual fundraising gala and other seminars.
The Concours event itself takes place on Sunday, starting at 6:30 a.m. when the cars pour into the show field of the glamorous seaside mansion in The Breakers.
After participating in the first Concours d’elegance 2019, which reissued the Newport Concours under the auspices of Audrain’s Auto Museum, we can report that the location was by far the most impressive of all the Concours we have held in the past two decades the east coast. Fits well into the role of the Roaring ’20s of endless mansions on the southern tip of the Newport Peninsula. It was in this part of Newport that the Robert Redford version of The Great Gatsby was filmed.

The atmosphere and setting of the Concours certainly suited the time and delivered 100% of this very special New England theme on a great level, with the imposing mansion giving the process a Hogwarts style and a sense of occasion.
We found that the Concours field itself could perhaps hold twice as many cars if so desired, with more crowd pullers in the form of more 1980s supercars that Concours goers are particularly enthusiastic about today, despite the emphasis on War Cars is certainly understandable at such events.
