Biden signs executive order to end federal gasoline vehicle purchases and switch to an electric fleet by 2035
President Biden has just signed an executive order that will move the U.S. government’s federal fleet of more than 645,000 vehicles to zero-emission vehicles by 2035, with light vehicles converted earlier. After the changeover, the federal vehicle fleet will be the largest emission-free vehicle fleet in the country. The current ICE fleet accounts for 7 billion pounds of greenhouse gases and 400 million gallons of fuel. The White House said the transition is already under way and several light police vehicles have already been swapped for electric vehicles. The Department of Homeland Security, meanwhile, will begin field testing of the Ford Mustang Mach-E for law enforcement use early next year. This department needs 30,000 vehicles.

An official unveiling is not yet planned, although a surprise appearance at the Beijing Auto Show in April may be possible.
