Rumor has it that Audi has been entering Formula 1 since 2015

It is becoming more and more likely that the Volkswagen Group will soon get into Formula 1 after years of trying to get closer to the top of motorsport. As already reported, Volkswagen will introduce its Audi and Porsche brands into the sport.

According to reports, Audi is likely to partner with Red Bull, which will also become an engine maker from next year. Audi has also been linked to Williams, but a partnership with Red Bull is more likely for engine delivery, which could even retain the Audi branding.

“Insiders expect that the relevant decision-makers will then receive the green light to participate in the first division from 2026,” said a report by F1 Insider.

Audi boss Markus Duesmann has also hired former BMW engineer Adam Baker with the title “Manager for Special Tasks”, who could be assigned to work on the F1 project with the intention of entering the sport in 2026, when the new one Engine regulations come into force.

Audi’s sister company Porsche is reportedly in talks with McLaren, which currently has Mercedes as an engine partner. McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl in particular is no stranger to the Volkswagen Group, where he won the Le Mans 24 Hours with Porsche as project manager.

Jost Capito was head of motorsport for the VW group

He is also well known to Audi boss Markus Duesmann and Adam Baker from his time at BMW.

It has long been rumored that Audi will get into Formula 1 – but in 2015 the “Diesel Gate” scandal prevented the brand from entering the sport. At the time, there was a likelihood of a partnership with Red Bull, which now appears to be imminent.

At Williams, too, their CEO, Jost Capito, was Motorsport boss of the Volkswagen Group and maybe that’s why there are rumors about a possible partnership.
