Aston Martin announces the launch date for the Formula 1 car in 2022

In an email sent to fans Friday morning, Aston Martin announced that the AMR22 car will be unveiled on February 10 at the manufacturer’s Gaydon headquarters.

It marks a first date on the calendar for F1’s inaugural season in 2022, when all 10 teams will unveil significantly revised designs under revised technical regulations for the upcoming season.

Ferrari has set a loose plan for its car’s launch between February 16-18, but has yet to announce an exact date.

Pre-season testing begins on February 23 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. The teams are given six days of pre-season preparation before the season opener takes place in Bahrain on March 20.

Aston Martin will start into the 2022 season, recovering from a disappointing season last year in which it slipped to seventh place in the constructors’ championship.

In its first season under the Aston Martin after renaming from Racing Point, the team was hit hard by the downforce cuts that caused it to lose performance compared to its midfield rivals.

The four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel took a podium place in his first season with Aston Martin and finished second at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Teammate Lance Stroll recorded a best result in Qatar with sixth place, ending the year nine points off Vettel’s overall standings.

The biggest change for the team over the winter was the departure of team boss and CEO Otmar Szafnauer, who is strongly associated with a move to Alpine.

At the time of Szafnauer’s departure earlier this month, Aston Martin announced that the team would be “led to the appointment of a replacement within the management team”.

Aston Martin hosted one of the most memorable F1 car launches last year, featuring big names like James Bond star Daniel Craig, former Bond girl Gemma Arterton and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady.
