With the 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this coming weekend, there is a lot of nostalgia in the air around the most legendary endurance race in the world. The British model makers at Amalgam Collection have just announced a new partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, which organizes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and a brand new collection of scale models to commemorate the greatest machines ever to drive the Mulsanne are, brings out.
Amalgam is known for creating highly detailed, scale models, including carefully weathered creations that mimick the dust and grime of a hard-worked racing car at the end of a grueling competition. Their models are so well known that Ferrari has partnered with Amalgam to give new car buyers the opportunity to acquire an exact miniature of their car.
With this latest lineup of models, Amalgam and the ACO have highlighted some of Le Mans’s greatest winners, including Bugatti, Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Ford, Audi, McLaren and Aston Martin.
Highlighted vintage cars are the Bugatti Type 57G “Tank” from 1937, the Jaguar D-Type Ecurie Ecosse from 1957, the Ferrari 250 GTO from 1962 and the Porsche 917K from 1971. The collection also includes many modern machines, such as the 1995 Ueno Clinic McLaren F1 GTR, the 1997 Ferrari F333 SP, the 2005 Audi R8 LMP and the 2014 Porsche 919 Hybrid. All scale models will be available in either 1: 8 or 1:18 scale, while a select few will be offered in realistic weather-beaten versions.
These models of amalgam aren’t cheap, ranging from just under $ 1,000 to nearly $ 20,000 in some cases. That’s certainly a lot of money for a car you can’t even sit in, but this is one of the best scale models in the world. If money is not an issue, deciding which model car to buy can still be a challenge. For a full list of Le Mans winners available or to purchase yours, see the Amalgam Collection.
