Alonso demonstrates an Alpine F1 car at Le Mans
The Le Mans 24 Hours this weekend will feature a special parade of alpine cars, including Fernando Alonso in an F1 car, as part of the pre-race ceremonies.
The Le Mans organizers announced that the French brand will be celebrated before the race with a special parade with Esteban Ocon in an Alpine A110 GT4.
Alonso is a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans who, alongside Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi, won both the 2018 and 2019 editions of the famous endurance race for Toyota. Alpine won its first ever Grand Prix under the French manufacturer’s name when Esteban Ocon took a breathtaking victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix before the summer break.
Norris and Ricciardo both want to drive Indy 500 in the future – Brown
McLaren CEO Zak Brown says both McLaren F1 drivers, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, have a desire to compete in the Indy 500 at some point in their careers.
“Both would like to do it, but they are very focused on Formula 1,” says Brown. With McLaren recently increasing its stake in its McLaren SP IndyCar team, Brown notes that the team has a unique connection with IndyCar among current F1 teams.
“I think it’s exciting, IndyCar enjoys the Formula 1 paddock a lot. I know that Formula 1 in the IndyCar paddock is a lot of fun. I think this is something unique to our racing team. So nothing in the near future. But we will see.”
