240-mile McLaren F1 to be auctioned: Chassis 029 for sale

240-mile McLaren F1 to be auctioned: Chassis 029 for sale

If you’re the collector type who loves originality, this McLaren F1 could be your new crown jewel. It has only been driven 387 kilometers (240 miles) since rolling off McLaren’s factory tape in 1995 after spending most of his life in a private collection. Now it’s going to be auctioned at Pebble Beach this summer.

The McLaren F1 chassis 029, painted in Creighton Brown, is one of only 64 road vehicles built by McLaren in the mid-1990s. According to the vendors at Gooding & Co., it’s probably one of the most original F1s out there. Everything looks like it is from the factory, right down to the original Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The car is delivered like new with all special tool sets and case sets, a plus for any discerning collector.

Famous designer Gordon Murray’s brainchild, F1s can fetch more than $ 20 million in today’s collector’s market, even with high mileage, accident history and unoriginal paintwork. This spent most of its time in a Japanese collection, untouched by the outside world for years. Of all the F1 road cars, it is certainly one of the most sought-after.

The F1 chassis 029 is to be auctioned off at Gooding & Co.’s Pebble Beach event from August 13-14, 2021 in California. The auction house doesn’t list an estimate, but it’s safe to say that this F1 is sure to cost a lot of money. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a hammer price of over $ 20 million.
