2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster

2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster

Presented by RM Sotheby’s – Among the fascinating super sports cars in the class that emerged after the turn of the millennium, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster is uniquely fascinating. The basis was the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which made its debut in 2003; The car developed jointly by Mercedes-Benz and its then Formula 1 partner McLaren was clearly based on the contemporary design language and world-class technology of the former manufacturer, but was assembled in its plant in Woking, England.

This car was a true exotic, with enormous power and a top speed of over 200 km / h – and, yes, eye-catching “butterfly” doors. In contrast to ostensible competitors such as the Porsche Carrera GT, however, the SLR McLaren had a front mid-engine chassis configuration and boasted the everyday practicality typical of a traditional Grand Tourer. Notably, it was also McLaren’s first foray into street cars after production of the iconic McLaren F1 was completed.

The 722 Edition, which came onto the market in 2006 as a coupé and in 2009 as a roadster, takes the already impressive model to the next level: its 5.4-liter V-8 supercharged engine, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, has been removed 641. revised horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque. The acceleration from zero to 100 km / h took only 3.1 seconds and the top speed was a screaming 208 km / h. Other improvements included lower, stiffer suspension and lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels. New bucket seats and a steering wheel were found in the cabin, both upholstered in semi-aniline leather and Alcantara.

The name of the model and the subtle “722” badge were of great importance and refer to the starting number of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson, who drove to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia. What could be a more fitting homage to that legendary moment in motorsport history when British drivers triumphed on a German racing machine than a limited-edition German-British supercar?

With only 150 SLR McLaren 722 S Roadsters produced, the model was to be exclusive from the start. This Canada delivery example, painted in Crystal Laurite Silver over a black interior with red seat belts and stitching, was desirably fitted with the larger braking system; Red brake calipers are visible behind its black 19-inch wheels.

This particular car is also notable for its excellent state of preservation and history of use, as it had been driven less than 15,200 km (~ 9,450 mi) at the time of cataloging. The invoices on file indicate that two new rear tires were serviced and fitted by Crown Eurocars in St. Petersburg, Florida, in May 2016. An inspection and an oil change were performed by Mercedes-Benz of Sarasota, Florida, March 2020.

This 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster from the Fox Collection is an allusion to the glorious racing history of Mercedes-Benz and a celebration of the Formula 1 partnership with McLaren. It brings together the best of two of the world’s leading automakers – each with a rich track record in motorsport – like no other car before or since, it offers its next owner a truly distinctive combination or rarity, luxury and ultimate performance.

With minimum production runs and maximum performance, the Fox collection is filled with supercars that really stand out from their contemporaries, with a combination of unusual specifications, low mileage and outstanding color combinations. The Fox Collection will be offered at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction from August 12-14, 2021 without reservation.
