The Yankees gave up seven runs in the fifth inning, leading to a 3-11 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon.

Here are the key takeaways …

1. Luis Gil started the game with a strikeout, but then left a double to Oscar Mercado for Cleveland’s first hit of the game. Gil then forced a groundout and kicked out Franmil Reyes to escape the first. In the top of the second inning with an out, Gil allowed a solo home run Yu Chang to bring the Indians 1-0 lead.

2. Gil went his second batter with an out in the fourth inning but knocked out the next two Cleveland batter to end the scoring chance. At the top of the fifth, he ran into more trouble. Mercado appeared too Gary Sanchez with an out, but the catcher dropped the ball because of a mistake. Gil then hit Mercado and left Jose Ramirezwhen Aaron Boone decided it was for the young starter.

Albert Abreu replaced Gil on the hill and allowed Reyes an RBI double. Then he plucked Harold Ramirez and Chang delivered another double with two runs on the right field line, making it a 4-0 game. Owen Miller found a hole with the infield and hit it back in the middle to go up 5-0. Andrés Gimenez hit a triple homer in right field and brought them up 8-0.

3. Gil took two deserved runs and three overall runs with three hits over 4.1 IP, dropping six and doing four on 88 pitches. Abreu allowed three earned runs and five in total with four hits in just 0.2 IP.

Joey Gallo left the game in the fourth inning with neck tension.

4th Andrew Heaney came to throw sixth, and on what should have been second, Ramirez reached first and advanced to second base DJ LeMahieu‘s throwing error from the third. Reyes then started his 30th home run of the season to put the Indians 10-0 ahead.

5. It looked like the Americans would start in the bottom quarter of the sixth when LeMahieu took an out and then an individual win Lukas you went. The chance to score disappeared when Aaron Richter grounded in the inning end 6-4-3 doubles.

6th Giancarlo Stanton continued his hot stretch on the plate, blasting his 30th home run of the season to make it a 10-1 game. It’s the sixth 30th home run season for him and the second with the Yankees.

7. Ramirez hit a straight shot across Heaney’s left field line for his 34th home run of the season, giving the Indians an 11-1 lead in the eighth inning. In the lower half of the inning, Voit hit almost the same spot as Ramirez for a double homer to make it 11-3.
