With INDYCAR success, Dallara proves its ability to compete in the racing world

As evidence of Dallara’s longevity in INDYCAR, keep in mind that participation in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES began before four of this season’s race winners were born.

Dallara first built cars for INDYCAR for the 1996/97 season and won with Jim Guthrie in the third race of 1997 at Phoenix International Raceway. Dallara has won the last 248 races of the INDYCAR SERIES – 335 in total – and 16 consecutive Indianapolis 500. It will field all 33 cars in Gainbridge’s Indianapolis 500 on Sunday and continue its role in the series at least until the 2026 season.

About INDYCAR, Dallara Founder and President Giampaolo Dallara said that his company has been able to show global motorsport what it can achieve and when the opportunity arose to renew his contract with INDYCAR, Dallara said, “It was an easy decision. “

“We have never won a race as important as the Indy 500 and when you know you can do things right in the rest of the world,” he said. “That’s why we’re very proud of what we’ve done in the United States over these 24 years.”

Dallara said INDYCAR has been “phenomenal at engaging fans and stakeholders” while continuously working to improve competition, manage two engine manufacturers, and attract young drivers from around the world. The five INDYCAR race winners this season represent Spain, the USA, New Zealand, Mexico and the Netherlands. In Sweden the interest is particularly high due to the participation of Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Ericsson. The arrival of F1 veteran Romain Grosjean, a Swiss-born Frenchman, has added to the international flair.

“The series offers a fantastic racing experience and keeps budgets and costs under control,” said Dallara. “It’s really fantastic to increase the number of drivers from all over the world.

“INDYCAR’s technology department asks about the cost, results and timing (of delivery) and reviews what we are doing, but they are very easy to work with. They know what they want, which makes it a lot easier for us to find the destination. We know where to get to. “

Dallara celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022 and employs an estimated 700 people at its Italian headquarters in Dallara’s hometown of Varano de Melegari, a village southwest of Parma. 42 people work in Speedway, Indiana.

Every weekend around 300 Dallara cars in various formulas drive on routes around the world. The Italian side of the company works closely with the Haas F1 team and takes part in all Formula 3 championships, FIA Formula 2, Formula 3 and the Super Formula. Cars are also made for the World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series.

In the USA, Dallara has expanded beyond the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The cars now compete in Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires and two divisions of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (Daytona Prototype and GT). Through its sports car association with Cadillac, Dallara recently won four Rolex Daytona 24 Hours and two IMSA season championships. Dallara also designed the next generation NASCAR (Gen-7) chassis, works with aerospace companies and uses its simulator for numerous automotive projects.

In recent years the different units within the company have become more intertwined, and people from each location travel to the other to exchange ideas and work on developments. Dallara is taking part in a master’s course that trains 150 students per year. Some work in Indianapolis.

In addition, Dallara has given students from both communities the opportunity to visit the other, creating a cultural exchange that goes beyond business.

“It has improved the relationship between our village and the speedway and that makes me very, very happy,” said Dallara. “It’s not just about doing business. It’s a lot more than just a business. It is for me personally to maintain these relationships.

“Partnering with INDYCAR and Indianapolis was one of the best decisions we have ever made.”
