For Mick Schumacher it is not the debut season he was hoping for. The Haas F1 car 2021 has not been further developed and is therefore far too slow. Although he only fought on the track with his teammate Nikita Mazepin, he is in the right place with the American team.
Halfway through Schumacher’s first season, rumors were already circulating that he could drive for Alfa Romeo from 2022, but that would not be a good move for the German. Schumacher needs to keep a cool head and would be best off staying with Haas for his first seasons in Formula 1. At Haas, Schumacher gets all the time he needs to get used to Formula 1 and everything that the circus entails.
Schumacher will develop the car in 2022
While Haas is taking the 2021 car gently, the team has already shifted its focus to the 2022 car. A car that Schumacher developed together with Mazepin. They are the drivers who have to give their engineers all the tips and improvements to keep the car in tune with their driving style. With the team working so hard on next season’s car, it could also take a big step forward. It’s only been a few years since the team was consistently fighting for points and the team is determined to get back to that level.

De Vries sees little chance, but remains hopeful for F1: “Nothing is impossible”
Schumacher is currently mopping up the floor with team-mate Mazepin. The only qualifying sessions that Mazepin “won” were won because Schumacher was unable to qualify due to damage to his car. In the races, too, it hardly ever happens that Mazepin crosses the finish line ahead of Schumacher. Next year there should be a significantly more competitive car so that Schumacher not only has to fight his Russian team-mate, but can also show what he can do against midfield cars.
Hundreds of new faces after a season is not a good plan
For example, if Schumacher switched to Alfa Romeo, he would drive a car developed by Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, both of whom may not even drive in 2022.

Montoya: “He found out the hard way that Lewis no longer lifts for him”
In addition, Schumacher is just getting used to his Haas F1 team. Changing teams after the first year so that you have to get to know many new faces and how the team works is not a good idea. He would have to start from scratch.
Take an example from Russell
For Schumacher it is currently not pleasant in Formula 1, the Haas VF-21 is anything but competitive. But what the 22-year-old German can do is to take an example from George Russell. In 2019, Russell found himself in a similar, perhaps even worse, situation. The Williams that Russell debuted with made no headway, but it did give the Brit a chance to learn the basics of Formula 1 and get used to his team.
Two and a half seasons later, Russell knows exactly what he can and can’t do with the Williams. And although it’s not a great car yet, he can regularly outperform himself and the car with great performances in qualifying and races. If Schumacher stays with Haas for a long time and he learns to fully understand the Haas car, the German could become a new surprise, as Russell often is now.
